SURVIVING IN THE 90'S A DAY IN THE LIFE OF DAWNA
I arise at 4 a.m. and tumble out of bed
To quickly turn the coffee on and get the puppy fed.
There's lunch to pack and clothes to fold until the brew is done
Then slip into the shower before the rising sun.
Get dry. Get dressed. Put make-up on. My coiffure curled and sprayed.
Still must get the baby up and the breakfast made
Hubby's looking for his shoe. The baby lost her bear.
There always is so much to do. It really isn't fair.
The bag is packed. The door unlocked. Strap the baby in.
Climb into the driver's seat. The long commute begins.
An hour there in traffic thick. My mind is not awake.
I hope the baby won't get sick, I feel a flu-like ache.
The daycare center's up ahead. Give me a kiss good-bye.
I'll pick you up and take you home. I love you. Please, don't cry.
To work. To park. To freshen up before I greet the crew.
Hi Madge! Hi Mark! I'll get that call. Drink coffee #2.
There's mail to read. Reports to send. A meeting 10 past 3.
A snack from Sam-the-Sandwich-Man will have to carry me.
A sip of luke-warm Java. A memo on my screen:
Don't forget, the project staff must be overseen.
There's paperwork to sort and file and stuff into my case.
My gosh! It's 6! I've got to run to ever leave this place!
Around the block. I'll double park and dash to get my girl.
A parking ticket waits for me in my returning whirl.
Take Beeline back to Turnpike tolls then exit to the store.
I've only got to get some milk and lotto tickets, 4.
Home at last and look! The sun has not yet gone and set!
Let puppy out. Let ourselves in. Turn on the TV set.
Have some chips and coke to sip. I'll pop the dinner in
The microwave. Oh, here comes Dad! The day can now begin.
Sit down. We'll watch Roseanne and eat. How did your workday go?
The phone is ringing. "Thank you, ma'am, I'll have to answer, no."
Dinner's done. The baby bathed. A storybook is read.
I'm tired too. Turn out the light. Goodnight. Let's go to bed.
